Patricia Sheridan

I welcome graduate students interested in working on the ethics, metaphysics, or epistemology of the early modern period. My expertise lies with the empiricist thinkers; e.g  the thought of John Locke, Hobbes, and Hume. I am also keenly interested in early modern ethics, and particularly the sentimentalist morality of the eighteenth century: e.g. Shaftesbury, Hutcheson, Butler, and Price. I would also encourage applications from students interested in early modern women thinkers. I have expertise in the thought of Catharine Trotter Cockburn Anne Conway, and Margaret Cavendish.  Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss pursuing these, or related, thinkers/issues with me at Guelph.
